Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of family determination in shaping the political preferences of first-time voters in the 2024 General Election. The method used is a literature study with a qualitative approach, involving the collection, review, and critical analysis of various scientific sources, such as books, journal articles, and relevant previous research. The data analysis technique was carried out systematically through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the family has a determinative role in shaping the political preferences of first-time voters, which is reflected in three main aspects. First, the family acts as an initial source of information regarding democratic values, electoral processes, and the criteria of political candidates. Second, the family provides considerations in political decision-making through communication and discussions that influence the voting tendencies of first-time voters. Third, the family offers motivation and psychological encouragement for first-time voters to actively participate in elections and avoid abstention. In addition, mass media, particularly social media, also plays a role as an additional source of political information, although it carries the risk of biased information and misinformation. These findings confirm that the family is a primary factor in determining the formation of political preferences among first-time voters. Therefore, strengthening the role of the family in providing rational and responsible political understanding is essential to support the quality of youth political participation and the sustainability of democracy.
